Who We Are
The Vikings Rocket Society is a chartered and insured section of the
National Association of Rocketry (NAR).
We are a group of hobby rocket enthusiasts who meet each month to enjoy what we like most - flying rockets!
Our regularly scheduled launches are open to the public. You don't have to be a member of the Vikings Rocket
Society or the
NAR to fly with us, but please know
that we follow all NAR safety rules and regulations. Our outreach programs support the Boy Scouts, 4-H, Team
America Rocket Challenge (TARC), Student Launch Initiative (SLI), as well as schools thru-out the Central
Virginia region.
Join us and poke your own hole in the sky!
Launch Dates & Directions
Our regular monthly launches are held on every third Sunday of the month,
weather permitting, from 1pm to 4pm. These launches are normally FAA
waivered to 5000 feet AGL, and the maximum safe impulse for our field is I
motors.
Our launch complex is at Pole Green Park in Hanover County, located off
Pole Green Road (Route 627), approximately 3.5 miles east of Interstate 295.
As you enter the park, Pole Green Elementary School will be on your left
hand side. Follow the main road all the way to the back, past the soccer fields,
baseball diamonds, and skateboard park, to the field in front of the radio tower.
